Your perfect design portfolio is not just about showcasing what you’ve done – there are a few things you should keep in mind about the company or person who will see your portfolio, what is relevant, and what your selected designs say about yourself.
Although online portfolios are also essential, here are some tips to keep in mind when creating your physical perfect design portfolio – the up side to printing out a physical portfolio is that you can tailor it to suit the company you are approaching, so include the 5 elements below and you are guaranteed to impress anyone!
Perfect Design Portfolio
1.      Provide a wide variety of work
Make sure that your portfolio includes a cross section of your design projects as well as keeping it relevant to the person or company who will be seeing it – this will show your diversity, experience, and your ability to sense what they are after.
2.      Provide context to your images
Give a brief introduction to each design project and maybe even include a shortened version of the creative brief – this will give the reader an opportunity to see how you follow instructions and judge your ability to meet a client’s needs.
3.      Add some personal projects too
You don’t have to only include client work to your portfolio – add some personal projects into the mix and show off your creativity.

4.      Make sure you answer the who, where, what and how
–          Who are you?
–          Who have you worked for/with?
–          Where are you?
–          What have you done?
–          What are your rates?
–          How can people get in touch with you?
5.      Look at it from the reader’s perspective
Once you have completed your design portfolio, look at it from the point of view of the potential client – maybe even get a colleague or friend to look over it – you never know what you may miss because you are too close the work – get a second opinion before going to print.
